Youth Theatre Project, in association with KickstArt Theatre
Durban Actors Studio, in association with KickstArt Theatre, proudly presents the Youth Theatre Project, an “all-around” stage training experience.
YTP training is broken down into three “skills” groups; beginner, intermediate and advanced. The minimum age for the beginner group is 9, the max age for advanced is 23. Entry to this programme is by audition only.
The programme can combine solo and group training experiences which will expand knowledge of the working world of theatre, impart training in acting, song and dance. The programme will also provide VIP access to KickstArt Theatre studio and stage rehearsals, offer internationally certified performance examinations and provide studio performance opportunities.
The advanced group aims to bridge the gap between amateur and professional theatre as well as provide support to students as they take first “professional” steps.

The company was formed in 2000 by Artistic Director, Greg King, and since the inaugural production of Ben Elton’s Popcorn, KickstArt has been entertaining ever-increasing audiences, while providing essential project-based employment for talented Durban actors.
In 2003, Greg was joined by Steven Stead as Executive Director, and together they have worked to develop the company’s output and status. They successfully ran the intimate Kwasuka Theatre for three years, and have moved on to collaborations with larger theatres such as the KZN Playhouse, Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre, the Baxter Theatre in Cape Town, and the Liberty Theatre on the Square in Johannesburg.
They have also formed a very strong relationship with celebrated South African impresario, Pieter Toerien, who has co-produced several of KickstArt’s recent successes on tour in Johannesburg at his Montecasino Theatre, and in Cape Town at his Theatre on the Bay.
