Welcome to InterAct, voted by parents as the number 1 most popular extramural activity in eThekwini. Interact is the flagship youth programme of Durban Actors Studio.

InterAct develops your child’s creativity, confidence, communication, collaboration and critical thinking.  Our programme is designed around the internationally recognised London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) performance and communication syllabus. Grounding our youth training in this respected syllabus provides the structure and skills-based training needed to ensure continuous year on year skills development, Grade R to Grade 12.

InterAct is a nurturing place to theatrically play, learn and grow in.

Our Mini class is a nurturing environment that gives each child the opportunity to grow in confidence. During our Mini class, students find new ways to express themselves, playing with actions, feelings and words – we develop varied, age-appropriate, skills, imparted through a creative and fun environment – the best way to learn!

Our Junior students start to explore the world of “staged” performance. They are introduced to various fun activities which impart a solid grounding regarding the understanding of how ones voice and body can be utilised to shape and present a character.  They are taught story telling, improvisation and scene work in order to give them the basic skills needed to take ideas from page to stage.  Whilst we ensure a core skill is developed each term, we are aware drama must be an escape; a chance to let the academic mind rest and engage in creative play.

Our Senior students explore dramatic ideas, themes, genres, characters and stories through exercises that challenge imagination and creativity.  They fine-tune their understanding of character development, storytelling, improvisation and communication skills whilst gaining a solid appreciation for live performance. This class is about giving every high school learner a chance, once a week, to engage in creative play, a chance to let their academic mind rest whilst they nurture new and long-term friendships grounded in a  love of theatre and performance.

Grade 7 learners can join a Senior class – should we find the work is too advanced for them we will recommend a move to the Junior Class.

Should the student be over 18+ they will attend, Impulse. Read more here.
