Speech and Drama Classes

Our Speech and Drama classes encourage your child to develop strong and relevant skills, which will be used on and off the stage. During each class, your child will learn about vocal expression, language skills, teamwork, self-confidence, story development, physical confidence and more.

Each term we follow a brand new topic so life at Durban Actors Studio is never dull. This makes our programme an educational and life-enriching experience unlike any other.

IMG-20151119-WA0001Our Junior Speech and Drama class (Grade 4-7) introduces students to foundation acting skills. They learn games that develop trust, collaboration, spontaneity, and creativity. Imagination is extended through drama games, scene improvisations and character building. Language skills are extended through the introduction of scripts, monologues, duologues and devised drama.

We know our Grade 4-7 students are super busy at school and we don’t want to stress them out even more by expecting hours of production preparation or learning pages of lines; drama must be an escape for this age group; a chance to let their academic mind rest and engage in creative play – that’s what this class is about.

IMG-20151112-WA0036_resizedOur Senior Speech and Drama students (Grade 8-12) will explore dramatic ideas, themes, genres, characters and stories through exercises that challenge imagination and creativity.  They fine-tune their understanding of a character’s journey, storytelling, improve communication skills and gain a solid appreciation for live performance.

High School is a busy and pivotal time in your child’s life – we know how busy they are. We don’t want to put any more pressure on them by expecting hours of production preparation or learning pages of lines. This class is about giving your high schooler a chance once a week to play with theatre and learn in an unpressurised environment…a much-needed outlet and breathing space in their busy world.
