Youth Theatre Project, in association with KickstArt Theatre
Youth Theatre Project is a part-time, programme for young performers, 17 to 25, ran in affiliation with KickstArt Theatre Company.
The programme delivers rehearsal based training so young people can get a true taste of “real” world actor expectations. Each semester all students will work towards an in-studio production.
This is a specialised programme, and as such, it requires a higher level of commitment, dedication, time and responsibility from all students – do not join this programme if you are not sure if acting is for you, Impulse is our starter class for young adults new to the industry, join this programme because you have a passion for acting and you want to learn how to act well!
We have to be transparent and say that whilst there are no auditions to join this programme we have 2 non-negotiable expectations, failure to meet these will result in you being asked to leave: 1) 100% commitment to every class, every rehearsal and every performance, and 2) 100% commitment to learn lines and rehearse at home. Read our terms and conditions before registering for this programme.
Not only will Youth Theatre Project students receive professional training in various styles of acting they will also receive VIP access to observe the KickstArt, KZN’s top professional theatre company, rehearsal and performance process. They will also be invited to perform at our annual showcase in front of talent agents, producers and local directors.

The company was formed in 2000 by Artistic Director, Greg King, and since the inaugural production of Ben Elton’s Popcorn, KickstArt has been entertaining ever-increasing audiences, while providing essential project-based employment for talented Durban actors.
In 2003, Greg was joined by Steven Stead as Executive Director, and together they have worked to develop the company’s output and status. They successfully ran the intimate Kwasuka Theatre for three years, and have moved on to collaborations with larger theatres such as the KZN Playhouse, Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre, the Baxter Theatre in Cape Town, and the Liberty Theatre on the Square in Johannesburg.
They have also formed a very strong relationship with celebrated South African impresario, Pieter Toerien, who has co-produced several of KickstArt’s recent successes on tour in Johannesburg at his Montecasino Theatre, and in Cape Town at his Theatre on the Bay.
